Our Story

Anyone who has had to keep records of the children they foster will know that this is not always easy. For our family, during lockdown, it went from not easy to utterly ridiculous – we had to produce records for five children every week, week in week out.

Given the amount of work involved in fostering five children, extending a house, looking after various other children, and trying to have a bit of a life something had to give and the thing that gave was record keeping. Our records became increasingly sporadic and the records we produced were the bare minimum.

And, as any foster carer will know, the moment you get behind with record keeping the worse things become. To say we hated doing our record keeping is an understatement – it became the bane of our lives.

However, in another life, Joss had been a developer. In fact he’d run a software company that developed systems for fairly large companies such as Boeing Industries. So he decided to solve the problem once and for all. He knew exactly what he wanted and over the course of lockdown he gradually developed what would become WeeklyReports.

For the next two years Joss solely used a rudimentary form of the app to do his own reports but for him it was a total game changer. Being able to record what was happening when it was happening and have that information automatically added to a report turned what was a horrible chore into what became a sort of enjoyable diary keeping.

After lockdown we decided to see if our local foster carers in Staffordshire would be interested so we released the app to a small group of ‘beta testers’ – the response was overwhelmingly positive and so after many more months of testing we’ve now decided to open the app up to general release.
